Joy of Hex
The first Two Brass Monkeys collaboration with Derek Bosch.
We've conducted an exhaustive and exhausting analysis of all solid, twelve-piece burrs, with no solid key piece.
From the thousands of possibilities, we have selected and released three designs.
We are selling three new designs as a set, together with a hex manual, an extra five pieces, and a hex aid. Over 98,000 assemblies are possible though we have carefully selected thirty of the very best designs and included them in our "Joy of Hex" manual.
Missionary
The first and easiest of the hex positions to master. A delightful introductory position for those who have never had hex before.
Bish, Bash, Bosch
A relatively simple selection of pieces but not an easy one to assemble. We believe this design is the first-ever coordinate motion construction. Solo hex is possible but this design is most fun when approached with the six hands that come with a threesome!
Group Hex
There are 9 possible types of notched hexagonal piece. This design incorporates the maximum number of different piece types (8 of 9) that have a single unique solution. A real step up in difficulty from the missionary position and not one for the hexually naive.
Bonus Items
- Five bonus milled brass hex pieces
- A hex manual of 30 hexual positions & solutions written by our consultant hexologist Dr Eric Shun.
- A hex aid that will help you approach the most challenging positions with ease.
These items turn your three puzzles into a burr set, with 30 published challenges and over 97,000 other possible assemblies!
We thought the shipping weight of our last puzzle was crazy at 2.2kg but the shipping weight of a hex set is a massive 3.8kg or 8.5lbs of hexy fun. The price includes free worldwide priority, insured shipping.
About the puzzles
Each hex piece is milled from solid brass and is 6cm / 2.36 inches long. An assembled puzzle weighs about 1.8lbs or 840g. These puzzles have a real heft to them each weighing about the same as one of our signature Brass Monkey designs.
The puzzles have been tumble-finished to remove sharp edges and come in their natural unfinished form. They look wonderful if polished. From the second they are made, like other brass products, will naturally tarnish. Some collectors love the appeal of tarnished brass, others prefer to keep theirs in pristine, polished, condition For more information on this and how to look after your hex toys please see our care page
