Announcement : Gary Foshee's Transparent Lock

Last updated : 28 June 2026

What is Transparent Lock?

A short while back Gary Foshee's wife Nedra and their daughters gave us their blessing to make a number of Transparent Locks. We completed just enough of them in time for IPP, together with a small number of extras. We are now working on completing the rest.

Transparent Lock was one of Gary's best known and hard to obtain designs. It is a sequential discovery lock. The goal is to open it and, as the name suggests much of the trickery is hidden in plain sight. Gary produced only two small runs before deciding not to make any more, describing them as "a nuisance" to make.

Every lock we make is clearly distinguishable from one of Gary's originals. Our version includes a brass-handled key, allowing collectors to identify it instantly while preserving Gary's original design.

Ali and I have never been particularly keen on working to deadlines so they'll be ready when they're ready, possibly slightly after. But prepare for months rather than weeks or days! If you would like to buy one here's how to join the waiting list.

We won't be taking deposits or any of that malarkey.

The cost will be 210 GBP, plus postage :

  • Europe : £15
  • Rest of the Word : £20
  • USA  : £35

The higher USA postage reflects the additional costs of shipping via Royal Mail/USPS while we absorb the current import tariffs.

To join the waiting list, simply email info@twobrassmonkeys.com with the subject line : "Add me to your Trans list"

We'll add you to the list and, if we remember, probably confirm that we've done so  within 7-10 days.  Please bear with us—we're still playing catch-up after IPP.

A few of our puzzle friends have written about Transparent Lock and Gary in the past

The list will close in 3 or 4 weeks or when it get to be long enough. Gary was right, they are a nuisance to make.  First come, first served... but please form an orderly queue.

Cheers and Happy Puzzling!
